We aim to use as much local food as we can. Cumbria has an amazing selection of local producers and we try to champion the produce that this wonderful county provides.
We use Lakeland Prime Cuts at Caterite in Embleton to supply us with our meat, which they source from Cumbrian farmers. They also cure our salt beef and our pastrami to our requirements. Their Home Cured Cumbrian Back Bacon is some of the best bacon we have ever tasted.
Our milk comes direct from two Cumbrian Farms, as do our eggs. The cheese we use is sourced locally as well.
We make our own pickles and lemon curd. We also use jams and chutneys from Hawkshead Relish.
We buy mustard from Cumberland Mustard based in Alston and our fish from local suppliers.
Let’s not forget we bake all our own bread too across at the bakery. Real bread, with no unnecessary additives or preservatives. We use mainly Carrs flour but use other speciality flours from Shipton Mill.
All in all, we try our best to source locally. We think it’s the right thing to do.
